Quercus hemisphaerica, with a mature size of 80'High x 150'Wide is the best choice as a shade tree for larger landscapes. Evergreen in zone 7 and warmer, and tardily deciduous futher north. It drops its winter worn leaves in early spring at the same time it flushes out new spring growth. It produces small acorns that are eaten by turkey and quail. Its small leaves, spreading canopy and drought tolerance make this oak an outstanding ornamental.
