Description |
Q. oglethorpensis is a rare member of the White Oak family with a fast growth rate. It will grow well in heavy clay soils and has a deep root system, this oak must be transplanted when young. It turns deep rust red in the fall and the leaves persists on into the winter. The small round acorns are favorites of songbirds. Its red fall color, white flaky bark and fast rate of growth make this oak an interesting ornamental, not to mention the rarity of this species as a conversation piece.
