A much under used native shrub of the Southeastern US, species vernalis may not be as showy as others in the genus, but is as tough as a plant gets and sports a resilient tenacity to survive. It can tolerate a wide variety of conditions from damp to dry soils, full sun to full shade and is tolerant to many PH ranges. The Hamamelis species, including vernalis, have excellant fall colored foliage, which ranges from yellow to orange/red.
