Description |
Kalmia latifolia is one of the most under utilized native evergreen shrubs of the Southeastern US. Showy pink to white flowers in May, this form of Mountain Laurel is the most heat tolerant, found along bluffs in the southern coastal plain. Most commercial nurseries sell the variety of Mountain Laurel from higher, cooler elevations, which make for a difficult time surviving at these lower elevations and coastal plains. Once established, it is quite drought tolerant and does best in full shade with dappled sun. Able to tolerate and perform well in more sun, it is not tolerant of damp soils. Matures to 10'High x 10'Wide.
