Description |
All of the selections made from this species and closely related clan of Iris louisiana must comprise nearly 300 selections or cultivars with many new ones coming from breeders and wild selected specimens. This old favorite still catches more attention than the newer selections with it's very large, well lets say huge flowers measuring 7" across. When I first encountered it I thought I was looking at Iris giganticaerulea, the largest native southeastern Iris species, until I was corrected. It is one of the largest flowering Louisiana Iris in the trade and is rich medium purple in color. It is a large aggressive grower reaching 3'+ in height.
