Botanical Name Carya myristiciformis
Description A large Hickory with x breaking bark that will with age, peel up slightly to resemble the Shagbark Hickory, Carya ovata. Tolerates forest competition well, this Hickory has a bicolored nut similar to the Pecan Hickory, Carya illinoensis. The nuts are small roundish and are very tasty, but they have a thick shell and little meat. Nutmeg Hickory is very tolerant of heavy wet to dry clay.
